We’ll be talking to a new creative every week. This week we’re chatting with Damaris, a Coventry based singer, poet & creative writer. If you wanna work with Damaris, or get involved with a project get in contact with her @_damarez.mo_.
Can you tell me a little bit about yourself?
My name is Damaris Mowatt and I am 18. I sing, write poetry, and write creatively. I have twin sisters, older by just 11 months. I try to not limit myself in terms of singing but my favourite is soul, folk, and RnB genres. Also, I live in Birmingham but study Youth and Education Studies at Coventry University.
What do you think is missing in Coventry?
I had physical contact with people as well as face to face lectures once or twice a week during the first term. I also had Covid meaning I could’t work for the first week. Because I had assignments due, I had to apply for extensions.
How were you missed 2020?
I missed out on spending time with my friends and wasn’t able to try different cuisines. Meeting international students as they couldn’t travel to the university was another with I missed out on. This is something I really wanted so I could make stronger friendship groups. I missed out on having my own independence because of staying at home. I feel like I missed out on the ‘university experience’.
