Can you tell me a little bit about yourself?

Hi, my name is Leah Faulkner, and I’m 19 years old and went to Sandwell College where I studied acting. However, now I want to pursue my dream of becoming a YouTuber. Ideally, I’d like to integrate my passions into two YouTube channels; one focused on my monologues and the other based on gaming.

How has COVID affected your situation?

It affected me a lot while I was at college, as we had planned to meet older people, going to their homes to talk to them about their past and experiences to put a piece together based on that. Due to elders being more vulnerable to the virus, we had to scrap that for the time being. This meant that our work was more theory-based, as doing work online took over as opposed to pure acting.

Creative Call Out - Leah

Aspiring YouTuber Leah thinks their should be more funding opportunities for short films.

What could Sandwell College do to improve opportunities for actors?

I feel like they definitely could have had more funding for short films, as we never really did those types of films in college. It would take a lot of pressure off our shoulders, as it would give a more accurate perspective into the acting community after we leave. I think that councils could also create more opportunities for us actors by advertising more theatres to go and perform.

What are your hobbies and passions outside of acting and gaming?

I’m more of a stay-at-home person, but I’d love to get into dancing, karate, photography, etc. I think with dancing, it does have that link to acting, so I’d love to incorporate that into some of my auditions to give me the edge over some of the other candidates.
