Can you tell me a bit about yourself?

Hi, my name is Lydia, and I’m 16 years old and a YouTuber who creates content based around vlogs, challenges and, life hacks, and radio presenting on the side.

Could there be more funding for creatives who want to start a YouTube channel?

I believe more could be done for funding for video editing, as when I started YouTube, I didn’t know how to edit. If you want to get yourself out there on YouTube, you have to have good editing skills to stand out, which I had to learn on my own. However, not everyone can teach themselves, so funding would give more opportunities for those people to come out of their shells and pursue their dreams of becoming content creators.

Lydia believes there should be more funding for Video Editing for young people.

What could schools and local councils do more to help?

I feel that safety on the internet needs to have more light shed on it, as there are things that I have to do to keep my family safe online. Schools could emphasize more on safety guidelines while using the internet, as a lot can happen when you’re a YouTuber such as cyberbullying and people hating in the comments.

Could schools do more to embrace difference?

The entertainment industry and schools should embrace the differences while supporting and acknowledging that people want to be different and feel comfortable in their own skin. Anyone can be successful if they have the right mindset and don’t let the fact that YouTube is a competitive industry bring you down or change the way you want to express yourself.
